Alissa's Writing
Women of The World
Below is an essay from the magazine I made called Women of the World. I made the magazine to learn and write about important women in the world and issues that surround the topic. In this essay, I wrote about how history classes do not spend enough time appreciating the things women have done to get the world to where it is. This essay is my best of my magazine because for this essay, I was able to make many strong points about my argument, like that not teaching women in history enough discredits all women have done and that it teachers younger generations that men have been and are superior to women.
In this excerpt from my novel I wrote during NaNoWriMo. In this scene, the main character, Geordie, and her best friend Oliver are having a tense conversation about a note they found. Since Geordie has met Oliver and his friends while attending a program for kids who have gone through traumatic experiences, she has begun receiving strange letters from an anonymous source involving her mother, who was "kidnapped" months before. To add a twist, Geordie knows something no one else does. Geordie witnessed her mother's murder, and after being threatened by the murderer, swore not to tell anyone. Now Geordie must carry a load of fear and guilt with every step she takes.
This poem is to the tune to My Favorite Things by Rodgers and Hammerstein, 1959, from the Sound of Music. Here are my favorite things!
